Chemical Peels

Refreshed, healthy skin

There are many skin conditions that cannot be treated effectively using over-the-counter creams and topical treatments. For severe cases of acne for example, it can be very difficult to treat. Chemical skin peels offer a very effective means of treating stubborn skin conditions and providing your skin with a healthy and radiant glow.

At Elixir Medical in Kalamata, we offer skin peels that are used to treat a range of skin conditions. When you come to us for a skin peel, you can be assured that you’ll receive the very best treatment possible and that you’ll be treated as an individual rather than just a number.

Our treatments are done by Dr Rena Sacca.

Below is everything you need to know about chemical skin peels.

What conditions are chemical skin peels used to treat?

They are used to treat a wide range of skin conditions, including wrinkles, scarring, discolouration, acne and sun damage.

How is a chemical skin peel performed?

First the skin is vigorously cleaned. After this the appropriate chemical is the applied to the skin for the amount of time required to yield the best results.

How long do they take?

Skin peels are generally a quick procedure and often can be performed in a matter of minutes, although this depends on the size of the area that’s being treated.

Are they painful?

Most skin peels are only mildly painful, with a brief burning sensation whilst the peel is applied. This subsides very quickly though and more serious side effects are very rare.

How long do the results last?

This depends on how deep the peel you get is and how well you take care of your skin afterwards. With proper skin care i.e. staying out of the sun and keeping your skin hydrated, results can last months and even years in some cases.

How many peels will I need?

Usually, the desired results can be achieved in less than 5 peels. After this, you can have regular maintenance peels once a month if so desired.

Are there any risks?

Superficial peels are generally very safe, although some mild stinging and discomfort may occur..

What is the recovery time?

The recovery time will depend on the depth of the peel. For light peels, it takes about 3-5 for the shedding process to complete. For medium peels it takes 5-7 days.
